空気中の二酸化炭素を燃料に、海を渡る研究船
−− 二酸化炭素から燃料を作って世界中の船を走らせたい −−
そんな野望を抱いて日々研究している私たちは、CRRAの中で主に海に関する研究を行なっている、
海上運輸開発局(MU4;Marine Utilization for halting climate change)です。
今から4年前、私たちは空気中の二酸化炭素を石油の代替燃料に変える化学反応を発見しました。
その反応で生成された軽油を、そら(空気中)から作ったガソリン(燃料)ということで、「そらりん」と名付けました。
この「そらりん」は、弊社の発明品である「ひやっしー」を使用して回収した空気中の二酸化炭素に、化学的な処理を施して生成させる軽油です。
つまり、生成から使用の過程で二酸化炭素を余分に排出しないため、地球温暖化を止める鍵になる燃料だと考えています。
さて、そらりん を実用化させるためには、まずは実証実験が欠かせません。
そこで利用するのが、MU4自慢の研究船である「第五金海丸」です。
金海丸はディーゼルエンジンを搭載している船なので、軽油を燃料として動きます。
ひやっしー から作った そらりん を金海丸で実証実験をし、改善と研究を重ね、安全にご利用いただける製品として全世界に発信することが、私たちMU4の大きな目的の一つです。

Currently, the Kinkai Maru is moored at Shinkawa Fishing Port in Niigata City, Niigata Prefecture.
In order to carry out the research and demonstration experiments with Sorarin that we are planning, we need the Kanakai Maru at a port in the Kanto region, where the factory where Sorarin is made is located.
On Saturday, July 31st , we will sail the Kinkai Maru from Shinkawa Fishing Port to a port in Chiba Prefecture.
To do this, fuel (diesel) is needed to run the Kinkai Maru, but for a ship the size of the Kinkai Maru, it takes
You will need about 50,000 yen worth of fuel.
We would like to use the money you have donated to us first to purchase fuel.
A lifeline on the sea that protects lives and ships
Marine radar is a device that displays information about nearby ships and obstacles as images.
Currently, the Kinkai Maru is not equipped with a shipboard radar.
If the weather is clear and the sea is calm, accidents can be prevented by keeping a thorough lookout, even without radar.
However, when visibility is reduced due to rain or thick fog, or the sea becomes rough and maneuvering becomes difficult, it is necessary to quickly spot nearby ships or obstacles and steer the ship in order to prevent accidents.
It is no exaggeration to say that marine radar is a lifeline at sea that prevents accidents.
Marine radars are very expensive equipment, with even the cheapest ones costing 200,000 yen .
We will use the money you have donated to fund this ship's radar, and strive to ensure safe navigation that not only protects the lives of the crew and the hull of the Kankai Maru, but also the lives of those on the other side.

On August 6th, the Kinkai Maru was making smooth progress across the Tsugaru Strait when suddenly, mid-ship, it began spewing out a huge amount of black smoke and its engine began to malfunction.
Therefore, we determined that if we continued on this path, the engine would stop in the middle of the Pacific Ocean, so we quickly gave up on heading to the port we had planned to call at and made an emergency evacuation to the nearest port.
The next day, a repairman checked the engine and found that the Kanakai Maru's engine was already in quite bad condition and could stop working at any time if things continued as they were.
We plan to continue sailing it to our destination, Katsuura, Chiba Prefecture, but because it is in a very dangerous condition, we would like to repair it as soon as possible.
Replacing an engine would cost a very large amount of money, 4 million yen even for a used one, and it is not an amount that can be easily prepared.
We would appreciate your support so that we can conduct Sorarin's research safely on the Kinkai Maru after its voyage.
History of the Kinkai Maru
船齢45歳、最大漁獲量を誇った伝説の漁船
The No. 5 Kinkai Maru was newly built in October 1975, and was inspected on May 27th of the following year, beginning its service as a fishing boat.
It has been passed down through several generations and continued to function as a fishing boat until May 2020.
Due to its size, power, and the skill of its predecessor, it is said to have been a legendary ship that boasted the largest catch in the port.
When the previous owner passed away due to illness, his family, unable to know what to do with the horse, put it up for sale on Jimoty (※1).
Fumi Muraki, CRRA's representative director and president, happened to open Jimoty while doing his daily internet surfing and by chance discovered a post about a large ship. He immediately made an enquiry and flew to Niigata.
When Muraki saw the Kinkai Maru with his own eyes, he was deeply impressed and approached the authorities requesting that he be allowed to use it in his research.
That was how MU4 and Kinkaimaru met.
